10 Unique Travel Destinations To Try For Summer 2017

Final Friday Five

We’re nearly a quarter of the way through 2017 – can you believe it?! Here’s our favourite news and articles from the month that has seen the Budget, Brexit and just that little bit more sunshine…

Say hello to two new Kooltherm K100 range products

We’re pleased to be launching two new products next week.

Kooltherm K107 Pitched Roof Board and Kooltherm K112 Framing Board join the six other K100 range products on Monday 3rd April.

You can find out more here.

Two’s good, three’s better

Level 2 BIM has now been required on government contracts for nearly a year. This RIBA J article looks at what we can expect from the next step – Level 3.

In our working lifetimes technologies have developed rapidly. It is a reminder that when thinking about Level 3 we shouldn’t be limited by what we can imagine from today’s technology. Data storage, once confined to floppy disks, is now almost infinitely scalable at negligible cost.

Read the whole piece here.

Wrap then Heat – making our buildings healthier and cheaper to run

A group of leading companies within the energy sector has outlined a new strategy for making our homes healthier and cheaper to run.

Wrap then Heat, published by the Sustainable Energy Association, recognises that supporting energy efficiency and low carbon heat should be a key objective of energy policy and addressing one without the other is sub-optimal for homeowners, investors and government.

Read more and download the report.

T-levels: what are they and how will they work?

The Spring Budget was released earlier this month, and arguably the most interesting announcement was the introduction of T-levels.

The new method of technical education for 16 to 19 year olds will increase the number of hours students train and replace the current 13,000 qualification with just 15. These will include construction and engineering & manufacturing, among others.

T-levels are expected to come into effect from 2019, and we’re looking forward to seeing the impact it will t have on our industry.

Find out more.

This new tape could change the way you build

Perhaps not with bricks and mortar, but certainly with Lego, Kre-O and most other building block systems!

The tape was developed through crowdfunding and allows you to build up walls, across ceilings – pretty much anywhere you want.

3 Factors to Consider When Choosing Window Treatments

There are many factors to consider when choosing which type of window treatment you’d like to get for your home. Here are three of them:

Style
Unlike many years ago, window coverings are available in a variety of different styles. Your choices include wood blinds, cellular shades, woven wood shades, pleated shades, shutters and draperies. While many people will choose the same wood blind or shade for every room in their house, that isn’t always the best idea.
A better idea is to consider what each room is being used for and then choose your window coverings based on that.
For example, bathrooms and bedrooms require more privacy then let’s say your kitchen. For those rooms you should look for coverings that room-darkening features. Not only will that help to block the sun on those summer mornings when you want to sleep in but the sun rises at 6 AM, but it will also block anyone from seeing into your room. Another benefit is that in the summer the room-darkening shades will block out the heat and the winter they will block out the cold. Source: SheBudgets

Budget
Are you outfitting just one window or the entire house? You may consider spending more on certain windows and scaling back on others. Window treatments are priced by size, so expect larger treatments to cost more. Custom sizes and specialty fabrics, patterns, and features also add to the cost. Source: GoodHousekeeping

Window’s Exposure
Windows that are facing towards the east or south can produce large amounts of heat and sunlight. This can cause furniture, carpeting and other areas of the home to fade if some level of sun blockage is not used. Source: AngiesList

Still haven’t decided? Contact us and we’ll be more than happy to help you out!

11 Amazing Things to do in the Arctic

How to deal with bats in refurbishment

Spring officially starts today! So it’s a good time to start thinking about those home refurbishments you’ve been putting off this winter.

Perhaps you need to replace those damaged roof tiles, or insulate your loft space with our new Kooltherm K107 Pitched Roof Board? But, you may not realise that in starting these refurbishment works, you could bump into some little critters: bats!

Did you know it is illegal to kill, injure or disturb a bat? It is also illegal to damage, destroy or obstruct access to their roosts.

To avoid doing any of these things by accident when starting refurbishment works, it’s good to know where bats tend to roost. Generally, bats roost in roof spaces, such as between roof linings and coverings, under ridge tiles and lead flashing, and behind fascia boards. They can also roost in wall cavities, and if they can find any gaps around door and window frames they’ll roost there too!

Local planning authorities (LPAs) have a duty to consider protected species in planning processes. But, development licences can be granted for activities that would otherwise be illegal. To apply for a development licence, and also satisfy your LPA, data will need to be collected on bat populations in the area, the methods that will be used to reduce harm and impact to bats, and details of the provisions for bat roosting before, during and after refurbishment works. Surveys can be carried out at any time of year, and involve an ecologist to inspect for bats, or evidence of bats, such as droppings. However, this process can take a few months, so it is best to start data collection early before any refurbishment works take place.

If you do find any bats, the following are suitable alternatives to help them carry on living in their usual style of habitat:

  • Bat boxes erected on trees or buildings
  • Bat flight entrance points, which could be built into the roof, a door or a wall
  • Internal flight space for bats in an attic
  • The use of bitumen roofing felt and untreated timber
  • The planting of shrubs or trees around the building to provide new bat flight routes and foraging area

For more information, please refer to a handy ‘Good Repair Guide’ produced for the BRE in 2009, ‘Bats and Refurbishment’.

How to Clean Wood Blinds

Wood blinds or faux wood blinds are a great addition to any room. They give a warm feeling to a home. Below, you will find some great cleaning tips!

Wood Blinds

  • Most wood blinds are treated with a special finish to repel dirt and stains. Wood blinds can be cleaned with a good quality furniture polish and a soft cloth or clean sock. Spray the furniture polish on the cloth and wipe each slat individually. Avoid touching the cords.
  • For heavier cleaning, you can use plain water, but be careful not to saturate the wood. Wipe excess water immediately to prevent spotting, discoloration, or warping. Source: BobVila

Faux-Wood Blinds
Clean faux-wood blinds using the same method as wood blinds, but skip the wood conditioner. Instead, when they’ve been cleaned, run a fabric softener sheet over each slat. This will prevent dust build-up for several months. When the magical dust-repelling properties have stopped working, simply wipe the blinds with a new cloth. Source: DIYNetwork

Go Green and Disinfect Your Blinds with White Vinegar
If you’d prefer to use an all-natural cleaner, white vinegar is an excellent choice and will efficiently disinfect your blinds. Pour a small amount of white vinegar into a bowl or shallow bucket. Put on a pair of clean cotton gloves or substitute with a clean pair of socks. Dip one gloved hand into the vinegar.
Use your other hand to hold the edge of the blinds firmly. Source: WikiHow

Roots & Shoots Flower Sale

Fun Flower Fact of the Week: The word flower originated from the word flow-erre, meaning soft pretzel in germanic-middle english. According to our etymological data research, this was because back in the olden days, peasant farmers were unable to afford roses or pretty flowers, so instead gave their lovers bouquets of soft pretzels with a mustard dip. How romantic indeed!

Hello friends. Here's just a reminder that Roots & Shoots will be selling roses and yellow tulips at the front of the cafeteria during lunch times this week. Roses will cost 10RMB and tulips 5RMB, and they will be discounted to 100RMB and 50RMB respectively if you choose to buy a dozen.

Mindfulness in March

What is mindfulness? It is paying attention to what is going on at the present moment without judgement. Instead of reacting to a situation, mindfulness allows us to respond.

Are there benefits to mindfulness? There are many! Below are just a few:

  • Reduces feelings of stress
  • Eases test anxiety
  • Improves attention
  • Increases compassion for self and others
  • Helps regulate feelings

Is mindfulness meditating?

There are many ways to practice mindfulness. Being mindful of our breath is one way. We can mindfully eat and walk. In fact, we can be mindful to everything throughout the day through our five senses, as well as with our thoughts and emotions.

How Much Does It Cost To Change Locks? 4 Things To Consider

How much does it cost to change locks? I am sure this is a question that many people have found themselves pondering over, time and time again. Chances are, you sifted through numerous search results to try and find some information that would potentially answer your question.

You might have made you way down to a local hardware store to try and see if there was anyone there that could provide you with some relevant answers (probably not). Regardless of how you tried to answer the question, I want to take the time to walk you through some important things you need to know concerning the cost to change locks.

If you have owned a home for more than 10 years, there is a chance you might have changed your locks during that time. It’s a really bad sign if you haven’t. There are many people that neglect to pay attention to their door locks but somehow, expect their locks to continue to function at peak performance. Locks are not impervious to damage, so it is important for homeowners to pay close attention to one of the main focal points of their home security.

Lock changes are extremely important for a good number of reasons. Adhering to a lock maintenance schedule will you understand just how well your locks are working to keep you safe. There are times when a lock might have to be changed even after it has just been installed. This could result from a recent home break-in, or even because someone lost their keys.

Changing a lock is sometimes viewed as the blanket term for other services, so it is important to understand what it is you need before you start looking into the cost to change locks. For example, if someone breaks into your home and damages your lock in the process, you have the option of either changing the lock or calling a locksmith to help you with damaged lock repair. I would personally suggest changing and upgrading your locks, for the simple fact that someone was able to bypass them. On the flip side of things, if you happen to lose your key, you might be able to save some money by rekeying your locks instead.

Essentially, you need to figure out exactly what service you need as you try to gauge the cost to change locks. In addition to this, there are a few other factors that come into play and these factors are things that every homeowner must know about the cost to change locks. If you are confused and have no idea what you should be paying attention to when it comes to lock changes, there is no need to fret, I’ll walk you through it:

1. How are the locks going to be changed?

When it comes to the cost to change locks, it largely depends on how they will be changed. You can take advantage of the services that local locksmiths provide, or you can opt to go the DIY route and take care of it yourself. Also, some people choose to take advantage of rekeying the lock. Even though this is a separate service, it is closely related to lock changing locks so I will discuss it briefly. It is important to know that the costs for each of these processes differ, and not just in monetary value. The cost also factors in time, expertise and the level of security that you want to be afforded.

Do-It-Yourself

The DIY Installation is best suited for homeowners who know their way around tools and hardware. Furthermore, it is important to make sure you have the appropriate tools necessary for the job, or you are going to run up the cost to change locks. When it comes to DIY installation, homeowners have several options to choose from when they want to buy their locks. Locks can be bought from your local hardware store, online vendors or even from your local locksmith shop.

The cost to change locks will be influenced by the type of lock you want to buy. For instance, if you choose to buy a Grade 1 deadbolt for an exterior door, it will very likely be more expensive than a Grade 3 deadbolt. However, do keep in mind, that the cost is not only of monetary value. It is important to realize that changing locks is a time-consuming process.

To begin, you will have to spend time identifying which locks you need and sifting through the different lock brands on the market is no easy task (neither is it quick). In addition to this, you will have to make a trip to your local hardware store to pick up these locks or to find out more information on them. If you have never made a trip like this, you should know that it is very easy to pick the wrong locks.

Aside from the fact that you might pick out the wrong lock, there will probably be no one around to help you. Unless it is the guy from the paint department who has no idea that a strike plate is not part of a dinner set. Furthermore, you will have to factor in the time that you will need for the installation process itself. Unless you were a locksmith in a previous life, you will probably spend a good deal of time figuring things out and getting it right.

Let’s take a look at some numbers. If you were trying to change the lock on 4 doors within your home, you will need approximately 10-15 minutes to install each lock (this does not factor in modifications or working in additional security features). This means that it will take you upwards of an hour to have 4 locks on your home changed and ready to go. In some cases, it might even take you much longer, because I did not even factor in the instances where you will have to remove a lock and reinstall it due to an error. The probability of errors is much higher when you are going the DIY route as opposed to having a professional help you out.

  • DIY cost to change locks – $10-$200
  • DIY cost to find good locks – 10 to 60 minutes (this time increases if you order your lock online and have to wait for it to be shipped)
  • DIY installation time – 10 to 15 minutes per lock (excluding additional work and security improvements)

Professional Installation

There is a common misconception that DIY projects tend to be much cheaper than having a professional deliver a specific service. In some cases, this might be true. However, when it comes to the costs to change locks, you might be better suited going with a locksmith. Before you scream about me being biased, let me tell you the reasons why this might be cheaper. As I stated up above, when you are discussing cost, you need to be paying attention to much more than just the upfront monetary value. If you decide to take this on as a DIY project, you will probably save a few dollars here and there. But in the grand scheme of things, you might be sacrificing much more in the pursuit to save money.

The cost to change locks, when being professionally installed, is usually determined and influenced by a few factors. First, the price will vary depending on whether you already have the lock that you want to be installed or if the locksmith will have to provide you with one. Also, the price will be influenced by the number of changes that need to be made to your door and door frame to accommodate the new lock that you are installing. If you are merely replacing the lock with the same model that was there before, the cost to change locks will rest solely on the locksmith’s prices.

From a monetary standpoint, hiring a professional may increase the cost to change locks by a little bit, but it will help you save on so many other things. Chief among these is time (time is money). An efficient locksmith will be able to change your locks much faster than you would if you were doing it yourself. This is because, as professionals, they have much more experience in this field than you do. Therefore, they will not spend time trying to find the right tools, reading up on instructions or trying to figure out how to begin the lock change process. Why? Simply because they already know how to take care of it. In addition, the locksmith will be less prone to mistakes whereas the DIY method tends to be chock full of troubleshooting.

Let’s talk some numbers. On average, when using a professional locksmith, the cost to change locks starts at $35 and goes up from there. The final price will depend on the number of locks that need to be changed, the complexity of the new locks that have to be installed, and whether or not the locksmith had to provide you with new locks. The starting fee of $35 usually covers charge for responding to a service call. The price increases with every subsequent service provided.

For instance, if you were to call a locksmith to change one lock for you (assuming that you already have the replacement lock readily available) your final cost will be (or not too far off from) $35. However, if you were to call a locksmith and you needed to change 4 locks, the cost will increase because more locks will be equivalent to more time and more labor. In this instance, the locksmith may charge you an additional $5 to $25 per lock. If the locksmith provides you with the locks, this is will also be an additional $25 to $50 per lock (the prices for these locks vary based on the locksmiths location, competitor prices and the type of lock you want).

  • Professional cost to change locks – starting at $35 (when you already have the replacement lock)
  • Professional installation time – 5 to 10 minutes per lock (excluding additional work and security improvements)

2. How much is your security worth?

The saying “you get what you pay for” is, in most cases, true. The same concept applies to door locks and the cost to change locks. This is not to say that if a lock has a high price point, it is automatically considered safe. However, high-security locks tend to cost more than their standard counterparts. The same can be said for deadbolts and the way they are graded. More often than not, a Grade 1 deadbolt will have a higher price point than a Grade 2 or Grade 3 deadbolt. This increase in price is usually equated to the increase in security that a Grade 1 deadbolt gives.

With that being said, the cost to change locks will increase in accordance with the amount of weight that you place on security. If you want to simply run down to home depot and grab the first lock that you see, you will not pay very much to have your locks changed. However, you will be leaving your home at the mercy of burglars. Many homeowners see the process of changing locks as an opportunity, and they utilize this opportunity to perform security improvements that make their locks stronger and more secure. These security additions will also increase the overall cost to change locks.

3. Are you changing exterior or interior door locks?

Exterior Lock Change

Exterior door locks and interior door locks have different uses, therefore it is crucial for homeowners to choose the right lock for the right purpose. This is important because not all locks are made equal, which means that interior door locks will not be suited for exterior use. In this instance ‘vice versa’ doesn’t always apply because some exterior door locks might work well on interior doors. Regardless, the type of lock that you want to change will play a huge role in the final cost to change locks.

The prices of exterior door locks and interior door locks vary, simply because they are meant to secure different things. Exterior door locks tend to be exposed to much more than just foot traffic. Also, exterior door locks serve as the first line of defense for many homes so they are designed to be sturdy and resistant as compared to their interior counterparts. A simple google search using the terms “exterior door locks” and “interior door locks” will show you the different price points for these locks. The cost to change locks will reflect the type of lock that you need to be changed. Chances are, if you want to change exterior door locks, the price will be much higher than if you were changing interior door locks. This is mainly because of the price points of these locks and also because they each have slightly different installation requirements.

4. Are you going to upgrade your locks?

It is hard to talk about change without talking about upgrades in some way or form. This relates to almost anything you can think of. When it is time for you to change your cell phone, do you go in for an upgrade, the same model you had, or a downgrade? I am sure that this example is one that many people can relate to, and in the same vein the cost to change locks is affected by whether or not you are going to upgrade your locks.

When it comes to locks, there are several different types of upgrades that homeowners can take advantage of and each of these factors into the price of the cost to change locks. This might sound a bit confusing but I’ll take my time to explain it. Homeowners have the option of choosing from high-security upgrades, smart lock upgrades or even simply upgrading from a Grade 3 deadbolt to a Grade 1 deadbolt. Each of these upgrades will likely be more expensive than the current lock that you have installed, but this does not mean that they are of equal value.

There are varying price ranges for each of these classifications of upgrades. For example, if homeowners wanted to switch to a high-security deadbolt lock by Medeco, they would be looking at a price range between $130 to upwards of $250 per lock. If homeowners were more inclined to have smart locks like the August smart lock, then they would be looking at a starting price of $220 (the price increases with additional features).

Essentially, if you decide to use the process of changing your door locks as an opportunity to upgrade your door locks, you will be looking at much different prices than if you were just replacing the old lock. Personally, I would suggest that whenever you are changing your door locks you upgrade in some way or form, even if you are simply looking to have security pins added to a newer model of your old lock.

Conclusion

The cost to change locks is not set in stone and, as I have explained, there is a host of factors that come together to influence this price and dictate the final cost. Although the points listed above are important (and homeowners should pay attention to them), it is equally important to figure out what matters to you and your home because this will be the chief driving force in your decision making.

When I say this, I mean you need to figure out if security is your main concern or whether it is the way you are disbursing your time and your money. Ideally, you should focus primarily on your security and figure out the most secure options for the budget you have. If you are not the DIY type of person, don’t push yourself to install locks simply because, you want to save money by not calling a locksmith. In the long run, you will end up losing more time, money and valuables based on this decision. No matter what you do there is no way to get around the cost to change locks

10 Countries That Rank Highest In A Dangerous Category

For all of the other lists of most dangerous places in the world, they generally seem to focus on the same dangers. In this list, we will sort out the most dangerous countries in the world by the type of danger they present to travelers and residents alike. From burglary to homicide and all of the dangers in between. These are the most dangerous places in the world.

10. Israel

Highest Burglary Rate

Israel

The most comprehensive statistics on burglary rates across the globe are a bit inconsistent because they demand the participation of data tracking and publication by each country. With that being said, OSHA’s most recent crime and safety report on Israel for 2016 acknowledges these issues.

In regards to home break-ins, these issues are reported as especially prevalent in wealthy neighborhoods and even the US embassy. These types of crimes are reported as taking place with the hopes of avoiding confrontation. Just slipping in and taking the accessible valuables. If you are worried about being burgled, Israel may seem far too dangerous with a burglary rate of 1,844.5 per every 100,00 people.

9. Bermuda

Highest Motor Vehicle Theft Rate

Bermuda

For how small of a country as Bermuda is, their rate of motor vehicle theft is exceedingly high. Their most recent reported theft numbers to the UNODC have a published theft rate of 1,140.6 per 100,00 people. They have not been actively reporting these numbers, but when compared to the most recent figures for other countries, Bermuda’s current motor vehicle theft rate, as well as their historic rate, is significantly higher than that of most countries.

When compared to a country with a little less than twice as many people, like St. Vincent and the Grenadines (car theft rate of 40.2 per 100,000), we still see that Bermuda has a tremendous issue. So when it comes to travel security in Bermuda or even the dangers of living there, you have more to worry about than just the triangle making your transportation disappear.

8. Guyana

Highest Suicide Rate

Guyana

It is often said that human beings are their own worst enemy. And it is true that sometimes the dangers in life come from the thoughts in our own heads. The most dangerous place in the world when it comes to the threat of successful suicide is African country of Guyana. Those looking into the issues of mental health in Guyana claim that this epidemic has simply fallen by the wayside of a country with far too many other pressing issues.

The danger of this suicide epidemic is said to stem from the belief that mental illness comes as the result of witchcraft and magic. Couple the factor of not understanding the danger with the crippling poverty and rampant alcoholism, and you have an extremely volatile combination. In this country, the worry is not that drinking will lead to calling a locksmith. The threat is to your life. Guyana’s suicide rate is a whopping 44.2 per 100,000. That is extraordinarily high when compared to South Korea (28.9 per 100,000), who is ranked number 2.

7. Lebanon

Highest Kidnapping Rate

Lebanon

In a breakdown of the UN’s data on kidnapping throughout the world, it was determined that not only is this an issue in Lebanon. It is almost twice as prevalent in Lebanon than it is in the next country on the list. In Lebanon, there is an 18.4 per 100,000 rate of kidnapping. That is to say that 19 out of 100,000 people are kidnapped. Being held against your will is extremely dangerous. You may find that you are handcuffed and threatened, or subjected to any manner of atrocity.

This is not just an issue for those that live in the country. This type of danger is posed to those visiting as well. The UK’s official page of foreign travel to Lebanon states, “The Lebanese authorities have warned that foreigners, including westerners could be targeted by kidnappers and other militant groups”. It is so dangerous, that even the government of the country has had to warn those thinking of visiting Lebanon.

6. USA

Highest Number of Serial Killers and Mass Shootings

United States

When it comes to the dangers of lone wolf killers, the United States of America takes the ranking of number one. The overall production of serial killers in the USA is 2,743. The disparity between the number of killers between positions one and two is immense. England comes in at number two with only 145 serial killers ever produced. This danger seems to be one that is quite specific to the US.

Although the number of serial killers has greatly diminished over the years (largely believed to be due to upgrades in crime solving technology), there has been a spike in mass shootings. CNN reports that “While the United States has 5% of the world’s population, it had 31% of all public mass shootings”. When it comes to the dangers of one person attempting to kill as many people as they can while acting without the aid of an organization, and most often as the result of mental illness, the USA is the most dangerous place.

5. Australia

Most Dangerous Animals

Australia

21 of the 25 most poisonous snakes all live in Australia. In fact, a great many of the most dangerous animals known to man all live on the island, continent, and country of Australia. The dangers of the Australian animal kingdom range in all manner of size, species, and even environment. In the water, there are box jellyfish, which are known for their deadly sting. There are also Irukandji jellyfish, which are classified as not only the most venomous jellyfish but also the most venomous creature on the planet. When it comes to sharks, sure there are great whites in the oceans of Australia but there is also the even more dangerous and likely to attack, bull sharks. There are even simple fish and octopus that are dangerous enough to kill you.

On land, while you are avoiding the snakes, you would also do well to look out for the many spiders that have the potential to kill you. The dangers of insects extend to ants, giant centipedes, and even ticks. For more information on the dangerous creatures that fill this land, the Australian Museum in Sydney has ranked the most deadly animals on a scale of 1 to 10 (nothing under a 5 is included) and this danger is not just an issue for human beings. All of these dangerous animals affect the safety of your pets as well. A curious family pet can end up injured or worse if they are not protected properly.

4. Iraq

Highest Terrorism Rate

Iraq

Not all mass attacks come from the mind of the individual that carries it out. Some are planned by organizations and extremist leaders and delegated to others. These acts serve to terrorize. And when it comes to the dangers of terrorism, there is no country effected with a higher rate than Iraq. Within the country of Iraq, the global terrorism ranking of 10, which is the highest score currently given.

This is to say that Iraq has been affected in the worst possible way by the ravages of terrorism. It also means that those in this area of the world have the highest likelihood of experiencing the dangers of terrorism. The dangers of terrorism in this country are as extreme as experts can currently imagine. So if you are looking for the most dangerous place in the world when it comes to terrorism, look no further than Iraq.

3. Syria

Most Dangerous War Zone

Syria

The most dangerous active war zone that currently exists on this planet resides in the borders of Syria. The conflict has even left cities declared as some of the most unlivable in the world. Between the years of 2013 and 2014, the death toll has risen by over 28%. This is on top of the fact that the number of those killed in the Syrian war are already at the top of the charts.

With around 80,000 people dying a year, this country is certainly one of the most dangerous places in the world. Whether you are a journalist, a tourist, a politician, or a resident, the threat of danger is never very far away in this war zone. Though the numbers of those dead vary depending on who is reporting, the death toll is well into the hundreds of thousands.

2. China

Highest Natural Disaster Rate

China

In 2014 alone, the continent of Asia was affected by almost half of all the natural disasters that happened in the world. The country to face most of the fallout was China. This issue is further compounded in danger by the fact that most of the population is not adequately protected against these natural threats. From the start of 2016 just until July, 1,074 people were killed and 270 were declared missing.

This is mainly an issue of population. Because this mortality rate is based on risk factors that are a direct result of population, it is unfair to take the data on a per capita basis. But even without the large annual death toll averages in China for natural disasters, they still are struck with a severe number of disasters. If you are worried about the likelihood of falling victim to the dangers of a natural disaster, China is not the place for you.

1. Honduras

Highest Murder Rate

Honduras

Though it may be true that Caracas, Venezuela has the highest murder rate out of any city, their nation numbers are significantly lower (ranked 3rd after El Salvador) than Honduras. The most recent global murder rates have reported 74.6 homicides per 100,000 people in Honduras for the year of 2014. (These numbers take a while to be processed by the UN).

Believe it or not, this number represents a continuing drop in murders over the past few years, and whereas most things on this list will put someone in danger of death. This is literally the chance of being murdered. Where a shooter or a terrorist may only injure you or a poisonous animal may put you in the hospital, there is nothing more final than murder. It does not get more dangerous than death.

Conclusion

Always be aware of the specific dangers that exist in your environment. And remember, nowhere is ever completely safe. The way you live your life will always increase or decrease how much risk you are exposed to. The best way to stay protected is to care about your security. Stay informed and stay protected. As long as you know the dangers you are exposed to, you have the upper hand in staying safe.
