Final Friday Five

A bird’s-eye perspective

We’ve recently become mesmerised by the Daily Overview’s bird’s eye perspective. We’re all too used to seeing our ever-changing landscape with our feet firmly on the ground, so we’re really enjoying witnessing the world from a wholly different point of view.

And, while we’re on the subject of perspective…

World Green Building Week

This last week of September has been World Green Building Week, and this year the focus has been on changing people’s perspective of buildings. We’ve participated by explaining how we retrofitted and, in turn, revitalised our sites in Herefordshire and North Yorkshire.

It’s also coincided with the near-completion of the UK Green Building Council’s office refurbishment, the centrepiece of which will be a fascinating green wall featuring 1589 plants of 12 species – sustainable and a talking point!

Saving energy, saving money

A few energy saving tips never go amiss, right? Especially with the winter months rapidly creeping up!

During the past month the Federation of Master Builders has taken a look at the changes we can make to our home to save both our pennies and the environment. Suggestions include everything from adding a layer of window glazing to choosing LED lightbulbs instead of normal ones.

Steel v Timber – how will the housing market react?

Ah, the ever-pertinent battle between steel and timber framed homes…

In this blog post, the BBA’s Phil Bloomfield examines how both methods of construction have experienced a rise in demand over the past few years.

Steel framed buildings have seen a particular increase, mainly due to speed of construction and off-site manufacturing – benefits not dissimilar to those offered by the Kingspan TEK Building System

“Winter is coming…”

… and the sniffles have begun for yet another year!

That’s what made Neil Dawson’s impressive ‘Horizons’ – also affectionately known as the ‘Kleenex sculpture’ – capture our attention on social media earlier this month.
